ELF Online is one of the most strange MMOPG’s under development today. First of all, guys from Happy MMO took viral marketing for the whole new level. They requiring people to post game screenshots and information on five different forums before they were allowed to participate in the closed beta test.
The main question is, what Elf online have to offer to big MMO community. What they say about themselves:

“ELF Online is a kind of 2D Online game which exploited by Happy MMO only. It adopts the popular internet culture of ’spoof’ as its main style and possesses a subversive innovation system featuring trick and love, etc. All these funny elements make ELF Online a brand new game. It perfectly interpretes a characteristic online game beyond others for players.”

ELF OnlineTaking a closer look at ELF Online, it’s clear that Happy MMO has taken the two most successful game franchises in the history of the world, Mario and Pokemon, and mix them. The game world is vibrant and gaudy, without being over the top, and it’s nice that the developers have shunned the current trend of graphical progression by making the system requirements so low that even an electric fence could run it.
The game appears to have a fairly strong forum presence, consisting mostly of people posting about connection failures, and presumably, their inability to find a dictionary.
There’s nothing exactly new about most of the other features. Your character will progress through the game being periodically trained by a “master”, and you’ll have the ability to chose a profession such as “poet” (Yep, more craziness here). These concepts carry over to your pet as well, who can learn and master various types of attributes designed to assist you in your travels. There is a production ability too - you can cook, forge, and mine your way through the game, and when you get sick of all that you can even participate in a siege war to occupy a town. There is a player-vs-player element, but the developers have insisted that it’s not really desirable to go around killing other people. To that end, your avatar will go red for a certain period of time following PVP encounters, and this will only be dropped if you pay for it, or perform other unspecified acts of charity.
One more new bizarre feature of the game is summarized at the Happy MMO website:

Marriage. First of all, you should meet the condition of intimacy: Both parties should not in master-apprentice relationship, nor affection of brothers, in addition, one male role can only in intimacy with one female role but one female role with 3 male roles. If all the above condition is met, you can form a team to World No.”Matchmaker for identification. When the intimacy relationship is confirmed and the intimacy comes above 3000, you can form a team to World No.

Matchmaker for wedding. After married, you can open the magic for lover only.”

Looks like after success such virtual world like Webkinz, Neopets and Club Penguin there will be really big niche even for MMO’s specially designed for kids.
